What makes a safe secure?

Look at the complete product

Evaluate the safe’s construction, tested ratings, lock, mounting provisions, and fit for your contents. A thick-looking door may include insulation and interior panels; it is not necessarily solid steel of that thickness. More bolts alone do not prove higher resistance.

Is a lockbox the same as a burglary-rated safe?

No. A portable lockbox can restrict casual access, but it should not be treated as equivalent to a tested burglary safe. Decide whether you need access control, resistance to removal, fire protection, or more than one of these.

What can I store in a safe?

Common contents include documents, jewelry, passports, cash, and firearms. Match the environment and protection to the item. Paper protection does not automatically cover digital media. Store items dry, avoid packing material against the locking mechanism, and retain appropriate off-site copies of essential information.

Questions first-time buyers ask

Does a heavy safe still need anchoring?

Weight alone does not prevent removal. Follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions and use a suitable surface and approved fixing method. Some installations require professional planning.

Should I choose a key, dial, keypad, or fingerprint lock?

Choose around authorized access, comfort, battery maintenance, and the exact lock’s features. Mechanical push-button locks are another option on some compact security containers. Explore safe lock help.

Where should I put my safe?

Choose a location that accommodates the delivery route, floor loading, door swing, everyday use, and anchoring. Consider moisture and temperature changes as well as concealment. Where to Place a Home Safe for Real Security.
